Considering the extensive media coverage and the fact that I’m working on a article this week on Mike Vick, I’m going to see how long I can go without mentioning him at all in this blog.

British Open Tidbits

The British Open is underway and great storylines are aplenty as they usually are after the first round of a major championship.  Sergio Garcia is the first round leader after posting a 6-under 65, however, you’ll have to search long and hard to find someone who thinks he’ll be in that position on Sunday.  Tiger Woods is on the prowl, 4 strokes back after shooting a 2-under 69.

The most interesting story is the roller coaster that is John Daly.  Daly briefly led after holing out for eagle on the 11th hole.  However, Daly, the model of modern consistency, followed that brilliant eagle up with a double-bogey, giving the two strokes right back.  Determined to outdo himself, Daly made sure to top it off with a triple bogey and three bogeys before returning to the clubhouse.  Daly should sue Freddie Mitchell for trying to abscond with his title; “the People’s Champ” will always be John Daly.

Francis Signs with the Rockets

The Franchise returns home to play for his favorite Franchise while spurning the chance to team up with good buddy Cuttino Mobley or with Dwayne Wade in Miami.  The Rockets have addressed concerns with depth and size with their trades for Luis Scola, Jackie Butler, and Mike James.  However, the Rockets are suddenly completely overcrowded in the backcourt, but with tons of options.  Aaron Brooks, Rafer Alston, Mike James, Steve Francis, Bonzi Wells, Luther Head, John Lucas, and Kirk Snyder round out the backcourt at this point.  (Whew!)  I really don’t know what they intend to do with all of these players, but I think the safe bet is that Alson, Lucas, and Snyder may be looking for employment and struggling to feed their families.  This comment leads to……

Dante Culpepper’s Family on the Brink of Starvation

If the commish wants to suspend people for making the league look bad, lets hit Culpepper with a 4 gamer for this stupid remark:  "Now that I have won my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so that I can take care of my family."

No Dante you are not “just” like other people.  You’ve made many millions and frankly if at this point in your career you still need to work to take care of your family, you should fire your financial advisor.  To liken your situation to anyone working a real job is utter and complete disrespect and stupidity.  Dante may have just nominated himself to replace Mike Vick on my hate list this week.

Anyone wish to donate to the Dante Culpepper family support fund?  It’s a non-profit organization.

B-Hop v/s Winky

My prediction for this fight?  It will end in a draw and it will be boring.  However, I’ve got an idea that would make this fight super exciting.  Assign each fighter a number of Mike Tyson Punchout style “hearts.”  That way, for every punch blocked, a heart is taken away and when all hearts are depleted, the fighter is not allowed to hold his hands above his waist and he can only sway from side to side.  That would give us some well deserved action between these two defensive counterpunchers.

Bucks Shall Listen to Yi

He wants out, they should trade him.  He warned them in advance and they drafted them anyway.  By no means to I believe that players should have this type of power, but it has happened before and there’s really not much in place to prevent it from happening again.  The best thing about this story was to hear Steven A. Smith pronounce Yi’s name on the radio today as, Ye Gee-ANN Lee-ANN.  Priceless.

Random Eagles Rant

The inside guy at Philadelphiaeagles.com in evaluating Reggie Brown and the past receiving corps brought back some painful memories.  Torrance Small and Charles Johnson? We “upgraded” to Todd Pinkston and James Thrash?  Now we’ve got Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis.   Why do all of those pairs resonate together for some reason?  Nothing against Reggie Brown, I think he is a quality number 2 receiver, but I really don’t see what separates Kevin Curtis from Brandon Stokely.   I hope they prove me wrong or Andy Reid decides to pull of a Stallworth-like deal before the season starts.

Eyebrow Raisers

The Nuggets situation at the point is dire when George Karl promises Anthony Carter that he’ll have a chance to compete with Chucky Atkins for the starting PG position.

Stephon Marbury is going to play in Italy when his contract expires with the Knicks.  He likened his impending move to Italy in this New York Post article to a “David Beckham thing.”

Sorry for the delay, sometimes it takes a while to pick yourself up off the floor and regain your composure.

I wonder what this announcement will do for the market for Starburys?  I already know at least one buddy who is buying them for $15.00 and reselling them for $30.00 bucks.

Gary Player announced that he has personally spoken with golfers who use steroids and that it has helped them immensely.  Of course everyone is wondering who?  Mickelson? (yeah right)  What if it was Tiger?  Would that not be the biggest blow ever to black athletes?  Forget I said that, don’t want to start any rumors.

Well looks like I made it an entire blog without mentioning the Vick situation.  Check back soon for my article addressing the Vick situation
