First let me apologize to my now 24 fans for no update in Week 3.  Sometimes life calls and prevents me from sharing my brilliant football musings with the masses.  If you guys can find me about 100,000 more fans, maybe I can do this full time who knows?  Thanks for reading and on with the Crackback.

Minnesota Vikings 30, Green Bay Packers 23

Brett Favre looked sensational in probably one of the biggest Monday night games in NFL history against his former team.  Alright straight to business:

*Begin Brett Favre Hating*

Firstly, why does Favre have any reason to be upset and vengeful with the Packers?  I just don’t get this rational whatsoever.  What job can you quit 50 eleven times and it still be waiting for you?  Since when does an organization owe you loyalty and consistency when you have shown them none?  I don’t want to minimize what the man has done for the organization and the NFL but superstar treatment can only get you so far.

Secondly, what you saw on Monday night was a combination of two things.  1) What an “NFL” quarterback can do behind a great offensive line with the best running back in football (no Sage Rosenfels and Tavarus Jackson are not NFL quarterbacks) and, 2) What an elite quarterback looks like when he gets no protection. (see Aaron Rodgers)  Favre had a great game no doubt, but if you think for one second that if you traded Rodgers for Favre last night the result would be any different you are kidding yourselves.

Finally, do I expect that Vikings to go deep into the playoffs and contend for the Super Bowl? No.  Is it possible?  Yes.  However, I’m not betting on Brett Favre continuing to play at this level for the rest of the season and definitely not in a big spot.  He has given too many games to the opposing side over the latter part of his career to think that he will act any differently.

*End Brett Favre Hating*

That is all and yes I realize that this entire post is a Brett Favre hate rant.  I like it that way.

By the way, one of my buddies I watched the game with made one of the most foolish statements I’ve heard in recent memory when he said, “Adrian Peterson might be one of the best running backs in the league.”  Might?  Anyone who still has doubts with regards to that really doesn’t watch much football.  Right now, here today, it doesn’t get any better.

Denver Broncos 17, Dallas Cowboys 10

The sooner Cowboys fans come to the realization that Tony Romo is a hell of a lot closer to Dave Krieg than an elite quarterback, life will become much more simple.  Expectations will be tempered, they will be a lot less angry the next time Romo fumbles away a close game, sets their #1 receiver up to have his ribs shattered, or throws two consecutive game ending passes to Sam Hurd against one of the games best corners, Champ Bailey.  They will no longer expect to win playoff games or even make the playoffs.  Life could be so much more simple and stress free if they would just concede that Tony Romo is Dave Krieg.

Look at the numbers.  They both had good seasons.  They are/were both good above-average quarterbacks. If I had to choose between Kevin Kolb and Tony Romo, I'd probably take Romo.

Dave Krieg is among the all-time leader in fumbles and that is actually an accomplishment.  Seriously!  How long do you have to be a team’s starter to break a record like that?  Hell, how much confidence do you have to build between you and the front office for them to stick with you as their QB long enough to break the all-time fumbles record?  The all-time interception leaders list is full of hall of famers and the all-time fumbles leaders list is like the Walk of Fame. (includes greats like Warren Moon, Brett Favre, John Elway, Dan Marino, and Dan Fouts)  So it’s really not that bad of a record, it just means you played alot of games . . . probably too many.

All Romo needs is a couple of disastrous fumble years where he drops it 16-18 times and they’ll be blood brothers and he’ll be the spokesman for Pillsbury apple turnovers. © Blickees first lady Sydney Batch.  So far he’s on pace for around 10, which is his yearly average, but maybe we’ll get lucky and get 3 or 4 in one game to get him on pace with his idol.

You’ve also got to challenge his focus and intelligence.  Why throw to Sam Hurd on one of the game’s best cornerbacks in Champ Bailey twice in a row to win a game?  Not to mention rumors are starting to spread that Romo didn’t even know it was 4th down.  Reports indicate that Romo was signaling for another play and hurrying players up to the line after the 4th down incompletion.  Maybe he was daydreaming about a slim and trim Jessica Simpson.

Enough about Romo though, say what you want about Kyle Orton, he just wins games.  Put Kyle Orton on the Raiders and they might be undefeated.

New England Patriots 27, Baltimore Ravens 21

The Pats’ slow start has a lot of experts thinking this may be the year they start to show some age.  Maybe not.  The Ravens defense really didn’t do too much even though the Pats didn’t look spectacular on offense and the Patriots defense did just enough.

If anyone is showing some age it may be a Ravens D which has given up 21+ points in 3 out of 4 games this year.  Yes, two were against the Pats and Chargers, but the third was against a Chiefs’ team without their starting QB.  Stay tuned.

New Orleans Saints 24, New York Jets 10

Drew Brees is killing me.  He starts by getting my hopes up in fantasy football by breaking the record for TDs thrown by a QB through 2 games, (one of which was a 48 point outburst against my Eagles) then he decides he doesn’t want to throw ANY TDs for the last 2 games.  What gives!  Cut it out man, screw the balanced attack, I want my fantasy points back.

Hats off to Gregg Williams by the way.  You are a true defensive genius when your hiring and a Darren Sharper signing has your defensive unit winning games for you.  Some people were meant to break laws, others to do great things.  Gregg Williams was meant to coach NFL defenses.

Washington Redskins 16, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13

Campbell is catching a lot of flack from every direction and I am still on the fence about whether it is warranted.  He is not going to win games for you by himself, but I’m just not quite sure he is losing them either.  Frankly, with games against the winless Chiefs and Panthers coming up, they could very easily by 4-2 going into their showdown against the Eagles in Week 7.

Meanwhile the Bucs are a huge mess.  They started Josh Johnson this week who Coach Morris referred to as his “Jason Garrett” and a “career backup” over their rookie future QB Josh Freeman.  Johnson actually managed to play halfway decent at times, but what does this say about Freeman’s progress so far?

Jacksonville Jaguars 37, Tennessee Titans 17

I must admit I was very skeptical about playing Garrard this week in one of my fantasy league, but it was either him or Shaun Hill.  Not a hard decision and it warranted me patting myself on the back after Garrard gave me 32 points.

What I really want to focus on here is the enigma that is Vince Young.  The Titans trailed 30-3 at one point with Collins leading the Titans to 3 and out after 3 and out, yet Young couldn’t even get warm up reps on the sideline?  Not one wildcat play?  What is the deal with this guy?  Can he be this bad?  Is he being black balled?  The Titans are sitting at 0-4 which historically means their playoff chances are rapidly approaching nil, yet they continue to play this old dude over Young who they’re paying a ton to do absolutely nothing?  What is wrong with this picture?

Houston Texans 29, Oakland Raiders 6

Jamarcus Russell’s numbers for the season? 31/75, 378 yards, 41% completion percentage, 1 TD, 4 INTs, with a QB rating of 39.8.  Cut your losses and move on.  He is one of the most inaccurate QBs I have ever seen.  It is one thing to throw a bad pass to a covered receiver, it is another animal to miss wide open guys consistently by 10-15 yards.

Also, in what profession and with what other organization does the boss not get fired for punching an employee in the mouth and breaking his jaw?  Seriously?  Does Raheem Morris keep his job if he does this?  The Raiders are indicating they are awaiting the results of the police investigation before making a decision.  How much sense does that make?  This didn’t occur at some nightclub out in LA somewhere, this occurred in YOUR FACILITY, between two coaches.  The guy has a broken jaw!  You call him into your office and you ask him “how did it happen and don’t lie or I will fire you.”  Then you go fire Cable for committing a freaking felony as your head coach.  Why does that require police intervention?

And for crying out loud where in the hell is the commish Roger Goodell when you need him?  How many players has he suspend for off the field incidents whether or not they resulted in criminal convictions?  You've got a freakin felon coaching an NFL team and a bad one at that!  Do something Mr. Goodell this is a call to action!  You don't need an investigation, the dude has a wired shut broken jaw with no reasonable explanation as to how it happened except my coach punched me in the jaw!  Are you kidding me?

These are the Raiders we have come to know and wonder what the $@#% are they thinking?

Chicago Bears 48, Detroit Lions 24

The Lions looked really good for about 2 ½ quarters then they completely fell apart.  They can’t be counted on, but when they play teams that have trouble scoring points, they are going to win games.  The Bears weren’t that team this week.

Cutler, who I have been dogging a ton this year looked very good.  He works for the Bears because he is able to make plays and is willing to take risks that past Bears QBs weren’t willing to take.  Do I trust him in a big spot?  Absolutely not.

Indianapolis Colts 34, Seattle Seahawks 17

Pierre Garcon looks like the next Marvin Harrison minus the murders and the secret gangster double life.  Seneca Wallace is a great backup for a series or two, but when you have to play a whole game with him, you can’t expect to win.

New York Giants 27, Kansas City Chiefs 16

The Giants were probably the safest eliminator league pick this week against a Chiefs’ team that doesn’t do anything well at this point.  They didn’t disappoint, although they probably had some bettors on edge when they decide to pull Eli up 27-9 in favor of the walking turnover David Carr.  The Chiefs immediately scored and almost beat the point spread.

San Francisco 49ers 35, St. Louis Rams 0

The Rams are bad and they play the Vikings in Week 5, which means they will be even worse by this time next week.  Patrick Willis is probably the best linebacker in the league.  I know people are still hanging on to Ray Lewis, but not only is the man old, but there is no way anyone can tell me he can cover like Willis.  (2 ½ sacks, and an INT return for a TD)  Its debatable as to whether Lewis is still better against the run.  As it stands today, Willis has better numbers than Lewis across the board and is much more active.  (Not to mention he had almost double the solo tkls Lewis had last year) The torch has been passed.

Pittsburgh Steelers 38, San Diego Chargers 28

One of my lead storylines for this NFL season was whether Ladanian Tomlinson’s football career was over for all intensive purposes.  Well that question has been answered.  LT is done, caput, finished, Shaun Alexander style.  Anyone who drafted him in the first three rounds of your fantasy football draft, I feel sorry for you.  (myself included)

You can even see it in his eyes every time the camera focuses on him.  The self-doubt and internal turmoil are evident by his expressions. The same doubt he kept hidden from view after every injury when he sat on the sidelines with his helmet on allowing his dark visor to protect him from critics proclaiming "yeah he's done."

Farewell to one of the great ones, but rest assured he is done.  Well done, stick a fork in him done.  We're talking Shaun Alexander done.  Emmitt Smith and Edgerrin James in Arizona done.  (is Arizona where great running backs go to retire and die or something?)  Warren Moon, Marcus Allen, and Joe Montana in Kansas City done.  Plaxico Burress done.  (OK I admit that might be a little too far)
