16 Reasons to Love the Patriots

The 2007 New England Patriots are on pace to shatter several records on the way to an unprecedented 16-0 regular season record. Despite this feat, the Pats have their fair share of detractors in the media and in the general public. There are plenty of reasons to dislike the Patriots but who’s pulling for them outside of New England? Here are 16 reasons to LOVE this New England Patriots team.

1) Mums the word

16 weeks into the regular season undefeated and not one mention of doing the unthinkable from ANY of the Patriots players. You know its KILLING them not to be able to talk about it, but they don’t out of respect for their coach and his belief in focus…Keep in mind that the Bengals’ organization can’t keep its players from breaking the law

2) Tom Brady

Come on, he’s a touchdown throwing, model/actress dating, Super Bowl winning Quarterback that just so happens to be having one of the best seasons ever at his position.

3) Spygate

Weren’t we always told that cheaters never prosper?

4) 60 Minutes

Tom Brady and the offense doesn’t let up at any point.  Some call it running up the score, some say its poor sportsmanship, I call it doing your job.  The offense doesn’t go out on the field to punt or kick or field goals.

5) Perfect

Arguments would still float around as to who is the best NFL team ever but a 19-0 Pats team would be perfect and pretty much end the discussion for me.

6) Madden Offense

How many NFL teams run the same offense you use in a video game? They continue to make me look like an offensive genius for running this offense the past 5 years in Madden.

7) Bill Belichick

Is there a more interesting coach in the league? He holds the world’s worst press conferences, wears the same sweatshirt to every game, his post-game handshakes are legendary, and he’s turned his entire roster into emotionless robots.

8) “Well Done is always better than Well Said”

Safety Anthony Smith of the Pittsburg Steelers “guaranteed” a win when the Steelers met up with the Patriots in Week 14. Tom Brady and the Patriots walked the walk instead of talking it, toasting Anthony Smith and the rest of Pittsburgh defense in rout to a 34-13 win.

9) Evil Mangenius

Isn’t Eric Mangini really the villain in all of this? He worked under and learned from Belichick in New England.  He coached alongside him, most likely using some of the same “tactics” he ratted Belichick out for.  He tried to “recruit” several New England Patriots free agents to the Jets while still under employment with the team, and then reported Belichick to the league for Spygate.  Aren’t we blaming the wrong guy?

10) Memorable Season

Whether the Pats win or lose on their road to 19-0, people will be talking about this particular season, 30 years from now. Quick, can you give a summation of the highs and lows of the 2001 season? How about 96’?

11) Fantasy Football

If you were lucky or smart enough to select Tom Brady, Wes Welker or Randy Moss in your fantasy football league, then that is enough reason right there.

12) Bad Boys

The NFL, coaches, players and the media painted the Pats as villains after Week 1.  But who doesn’t like rooting for the bad guy?

13) 72’ Dolphins

I know I am not the only one tired of seeing 60 year old Mercury Morris, Bob Griese and the rest of that Miami Dolphins team on television popping champagne every season celebrating a 17-0 record that happened over 30 years ago.

14) Randy Moss

At the end of this season, there will be a link between the two highest scoring offenses ever in a regular season. Maybe this is proof that we gave Brian Billick far too much credit for his role as offensive coordinator for the 98’ Minnesota Vikings.

15) History

All sports fans enjoy history and love arguing over which team or player is deserving of the title “The Greatest”. This season, on the way to smashing team and individual records alike, the 2007 Patriots are in the debate with the 85’ Bears, 72’ Dolphins, 89’ Niners, and 79’ Steelers.

16) A Gambler’s Best Friend:

The Patriots only loss this season has come from the hands of Las Vegas Oddmakers. After a blistering 9-1 start against the point spread, Vegas was forced to raise the spread to astronomical numbers because the Patriots had become the “guarantee” pick this season. Belicheck’s “No Mercy” rule, enriched gamblers all across the country.
