Blickees writer J. Patrick Williams provides us with a game by game short analysis and what if anything we learned from the results. Gotta love football season.Indianapolis Colts 41, New Orleans Saints 10
This Indy win stands for two things: 1) The Colts D has improved tremendously and 2) The Colts knew what they were doing when they let Jason David go.
Denver Broncos 15, Buffalo Bills 14
J.P. Losman passed for 97 yards against the Broncos D. Looks like they are as unfair in real life as they are on Madden. Bly + Bailey = Play smash mouth football if you want to win.
Pittsburgh Steelers 34, Cleveland Browns 7
How does your quarterback win a pre-season long QB battle yet he gets benched after only a quarter and a half of play and traded shortly thereafter? I guess the pre-season really doesn't mean anything.
Green Bay Packers 16, Philadelphia Eagles 13
Exhibit #1 if anyone ever asks you why special teams are so important. The entire game I was thinking, “if the Eagles had Reno Mahe, we’d be up 13-3.” Anytime you are wishing for Mahe, things aren’t going well. I could have never imagined being this excited about Mahe resigning either. I think its safe to say that Mahe is now my favorite player.
Carolina Panthers 27, St. Louis Rams 13
Tye Hill is fast, but single coverage on Steve Smith is never a good idea. It results in losses. Ask Peanut Tillman.
Minnesota Vikings 24, Atlanta Falcons 3
Joey Harrington just can’t buy a break. Two INT pick sixes require a permanent ban on the use of Harrington and potential in the same sentence.
New England Patriots 38, New York Jets 14
If cheaters never win, then why do the Patriots keep winning? I’m hoping the performance against the Jets was an aberration, as I don’t know if I can take another Super Bowl appearance from these guys.
Washington Redskins 16, Miami Dolphins 13
Jason Campbell made strides and Trent Green is old.
Tennessee Titans 13, Jacksonville Jaguars 10
I don’t know what is more shocking, Chris Brown's resurgence or the fact that it happened against the Jaguars vaunted defense. If you’d have told me the Titans would rush for 200+ yards against the Jags, I would have laughed you out of the building. If you’d have told me Vince Young would lead the Titans to a victory, I probably would have agreed with you. Young is someone you just don’t bet against.
Houston Texans 20, Kansas City Chiefs 3
The HBO Hard Knocks Curse. Fellow Blickees writer Jermaine Gibson and I discussed this after the first episode. If your team is on Hard Knocks, you can pretty much forfeit the season. You’re not making the playoffs. The Ravens following up a Super Bowl appearance, starred in Hard Knocks and didn’t make the playoffs. The Cowboys, didn’t make the playoffs. Now the Chiefs look like one of the worst offensive teams in NFL history. Maybe they need to move Bobby Sippio up from the practice squad. The only thing threatening this theory is that the Cowboys’ coach was Dave Campo which probably lent more to them losing than anything else.
Detroit Lions 36, Oakland Raiders 21
John Kitna is 1/10th of the way to making good on his promise thus proving everyone wrong. Ronald Curry is back and with 10 receptions for 133 yards, he continues to prove everyone wrong.
San Diego Chargers 14, Chicago Bears 3
I watched the majority of this game and I had two monumental thoughts during and after the game. 1) At no point in this game, regardless of how great the Bears defense played, did I think their offense would score any points with Grossman at the helm and 2) The Bears defensive game plan was to not let LT beat them and that is precisely what he did by breaking the game open with that HB Pass for a TD. If you watch that replay, there were 4 Bear defenders running towards LT before he threw the pass.
Seattle Seahawks 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6
Everyone I encountered this weekend seems to believe Alexander is due to have a big season. With 105 yards on the ground, they may be right.
Dallas Cowboys 45, New York Giants 35
In the barn burner of the week, the Cowboys offense looked very impressive. (Or did the Giants defense look unimpressive?) The only sure thing to be taken away from this game is that the Cowboys defense may be in deep trouble as they not only gave up 35 points, they were totally manhandled by the Giants offensive line in giving up 89 yards on 13 attempts to second stringer Derrick Ward in limited action. They also surrendered 144 yards to Plaxico Burress although Terrance Newman didn't play.
Cincinnati Bengals 27, Baltimore Ravens 20
Ocho Cinco does it again. It must really piss teams off that he talks so much, yet its so hard to keep him out of the end zone.
San Francisco 49ers 20, Arizona Cardinals 17
Another year, another loss for the Cardinals. It looks like the Cardinals aren’t who we thought they were; They’re just the same old Cardinals.
